Hp P2055Dn Firmware Extra Quality

I have a Ethernet connected HP LaserJet P2055dn that I'd like to upgrade the firmware on, but the HP site is less that useful. The download page for that model just seems to have printer drivers, not firmware. Googling generally leads to HP pages that no longer exist.

While I do not know if it will destroy the device as expressed by the OP @pazeth, I do know that the firmware NAME does not match the name suggested in the Firmware's release notes. While @davidzuts indicated that he has applied the FW patch, it is not clear if the DN (duplex) functionality has been compromised.

I previously updated my firmware successfully using the file Dungleviet67 recommended. This update advanced my firmware datecode from 20091203 to 20141201, enabled additional functionality such as the RFU option and increased available memory from 334 MB to 364 MB.

If you are handy with a computer, the first step is to follow HP's trouble-shooting steps and re-flash the firmware in BootCode mode, then reboot the printer. I was pleased to establish that in the absence of a firmware update for Windows 10 one can simply use any of the updates provided for earlier Windows versions, back to XP, not entirely intuitively obvious. I succesfully applied an earlier update which ignored the absence of an RFU setting in my existing 20091203 firmware and installed this option in the 20141201 firmware.

Windows 10 does not see the P2055dn printer online. This printer was just removed from a factory sealed box. The user manual shows windows OS support thru 8.1. I see and download new firmware but get an error during installation. The install process asks to verify the RFU setting to be set to "on". I can not find any RFU setting in the menu structure. I do not know what an RFU setting is or how to set it.

The suggested method does not address the issue. The printer I have came out of the box with a firmware datecode of 20100308. With this firmware, the display menu does not have any access to "turn on" RFU. When using a PC with windows 10 connected to the printer, the printer status is not visible to windows 10. The printer is seen as "offline" and an error message indicates the firmware file can not be sent. To get around the windows 10 communication issue, I found a PC with Windows 7 OS. The HP software download site had slightly different instructions to update the firmware. Although the instructions called for "turning on" RFU, and there still is no possible way to turn on RFU, the new firmware was sent and accepted when I ignored the requirement to turn on RFU. The instructions did indicate to power off the printer and re-power it during the process.

To be honest, I believe this was the key to enabling the firmware update, but during the many attempts, I cannot be sure of all the steps taken to make it work. The printer now has firmware datecode 20141201. It prints fro windows 7 and 10.

Naturalnie sama drukarka do najmłodszych nie należy, bo zostaławyprodukowana w 2011 roku ale skoro na stronie producenta jest dostępna nowsza wersjaoprogramowania dla tego urządzenia, to przydałoby się je do tej drukarki wgrać. Problem jednakpojawia się w przypadku takich osób jak ja, tj. tych, które korzystają w swoim środowisku pracy zmaszyn mających na pokładzie system operacyjny z rodziny jakieś dystrybucji linux'a, np. Debian czyUbuntu. Producent drukarki udostępnia stosowne narzędzia do aktualizacji firmware ale tylko iwyłącznie dla OS z gatunku Windows. Co mają zrobić osoby, które z Windows'a nie korzystają, achciałyby przy tym mieć aktualny firmware w drukarkach HP? Możemy spróbować postawić maszynęwirtualną na bazie QEMU/KVM, tam zainstalować Windows'a i udostępnić w obrębie tej maszynywirtualnej drukarkę, której firmware mamy zamiar aktualizować.

Lista plików, które można pobrać ze strony producenta drukarki, różni się w zależności odwybranego systemu operacyjnego. Narzędzia do aktualizacji firmware znajdują się w zasadzie tylko nazakładce z Windows 2000, XP, Vista oraz Win7 i każda z tych wersji straciła już chyba oficjalnewsparcie MS. W tym przypadku będzie wykorzystywany Windows 7, dlatego też trzeba będzie się na tęzakładkę przełączyć, by pobrać stosowny plik. Interesuje nas HP LaserJet Firmware UpdateUtility, który jest nam w stanie zaserwować najnowszy firmware z dnia 2014-12-01 (wypuszczonydnia 2015-01-22). Niestety w panelu webowym drukarki nie ma informacji, z którego dnia jestaktualnie zainstalowany w niej firmware (tam gdzie powinna być data jest tylko XX). Jest za topodana wersja oprogramowania, która wskazuje na V.37.12.IR6498 .

Teoretycznie nie ma to większego znaczenia czy firmware będziemy aktualizować po uprzednimpodpięciu drukarki pod port USB komputera, czy też gdy z drukarką będziemy komunikować się zapomocą sieci lokalnej. W przypadku wyboru opcji pierwszej, tj. via port USB, trzeba będzie stosowneurządzenie USB udostępnić maszynie wirtualnej:

Teoretycznie aktualizacja firmware via port USB powinna przebiec bez większych problemów. W moimprzypadku tak się nie stało. Nie wiem czy jest tutaj winna sama maszyna wirtualna, czy jakieś inneczynniki odgrywają jeszcze rolę ale przy próbie tak podłączonej drukarki proces aktualizacjifirmware nie startuje.

Jako, że nie szło zaktualizować firmware drukarki HP LaserJet P2055dn przy podłączeniu jej via portUSB, to postanowiłem sprawdzić jak sprawa będzie wyglądać, gdy spróbuję skonfigurować na Windowsdrukarkę sieciową. Oczywiście w tym przypadku nie trzeba dodatkowo konfigurować żądnych urządzeń namaszynie wirtualnej. Wystarczy, że będzie tam poprawnie funkcjonować sieć. Windows powinien bezwiększego trudu wykryć drukarkę sieciową i poprawnie ją zainstalować w systemie.

Po pomyślnej aktualizacji firmware drukarki, uruchamiamy ją ponownie i wchodzimy w jej webowy paneladministracyjny. Przechodzimy na stronę podsumowania konfiguracji. Powinniśmy tam mieć m.in.poniższą zwrotkę:

Wcześniej mieliśmy wersję V.37.12.IR6498 , a obecnie mamy V.37.18.SD . Co ciekawe, po wgraniutego firmware, mamy również określoną datę jego budowy, która nieco różni się od tej deklarowanejprzez producenta drukarki ale grunt, że coś nowszego zostało wgrane do tej drukarki.
